THE CHURCH AND RELIGION

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
In the Middle Ages, the only recognised and practiced religion was Christianity, in the form of the Catholic religion. The lives of the Medieval people were practically dominated by the church.
From one's birth to their death, whether they were a peasant or a lord, all had their lives controlled by the church. Several religious institutions such as convents and monasteries became both rich and powerful.
The lives of many people such as monks and nuns were completely dedicated to the Catholic church and religion.
POWER AND INFLUENCE
In 1054, Christianity split into Catholicsm and the Orthodox Church. By the 1100s, Chatholicm had become one of the most powerful religions in Europe. It began to influence governments, decision-making, and law-enforcements.
People selected the Pope as the head of the Catholic Church and God's representative and messenger on Earth. Kings began to ask Popes for decision-making advice.
To gain favour with God, many nobles and wealthy Lords left their land, property and wealth to the church.
