PERSONAL HYGIENE

Personal Hygiene:

During the Middle Ages, hygiene was not considered extremely important. Both the nobles and the peasants were taught to believe that an illness was a punishment from god for a sinful act or behaviour. The wealthy were able to bath in hot water, but the peasants however, could only wash in cold water.

Dental Hygiene:

During the Middle Ages, people did pay attention to dental hygiene. There was only one cure for a bad tooth - to get it pulled out. And in the Medieval times, there was no anaesthetic or pain killer - the pain would've been excrutiating. There were no false teeth or dentures available.  Teeth were cleaned by rubbing a cloth drenched in a mixture of herbs onto them.
